Rock On !!! – Review

There are a lot of times i get the urge to write about so many things, but then just don’t gather the effort to do so ! This is one moment i wanna put across ! Have seen quite a few movies, but haven’t felt the itch to write about any lately. But after seeing Rock On I felt a strong urge to put a few lines about it. It just touches your heart.

Its been quite sometime such a great movie has been made especially where music is the factor. The movie sure has a high emotional touch to it, but its superbly executed. The movie connects sumwhere because it is about friendship / dreams / moods / struggle / relationships / egos ! Outstanding performances from each one of them !  Prachi Desai / Purab / Luke Kenny are surprise packages !

What can i say about the music !! Shankar Ehsaan Loy rock all the way !!!!! At first when i heard the lyrics, i wondered who wrote them as they were so different but it all was so correct and it just worked and connected. I got to know it was Javed Akhtar (hes a genius) and ofcourse it had to be him since its Farhan all the way !

Though music has been essential part of India cinema, not necessarily it’s been the best or right part in every movie. There are times where you just wanted to pull your hair when a song breaks in between of a tense or a great scene. Well… not this one, this is THE movie where music is not just there for sake of it or just because it’s a trend of bollywood. The music is the soul of this movie, and it never felt so right. The heart pumping drum beats, butterfinger guitar riffs and unfit yet clicking Farhaan’s voice, beautiful camerawork… everything just works and literally takes you in midst of live concert. You’re sitting in a theater and you just forget that… you start swinging to songs, start clapping. If you’re young and avid rock fan.. you scream too. If you’re older, you find yourself with misty eyes full of memories from your college rock days. If you’ve heard tracks from Rock On, then chances are you didn’t like them at first go and it took at least 4-5 hearings to settle in with it… or even hated it at first go. Well, so did I. But when you’re in movie, every piece just falls in place and completes the picture. No matter what you felt about songs before, you gave in and can’t help enjoying every note, every beat, every word.

Like many others even I feel that Farhan Akhtar is unfit to sing. But… somehow, while watching the movie that notion disappears from your mind. Because, for some mysterious reason it works. It clicks. Just like that.

Although I liked most of the songs (except Zehreelay, which I felt was too-hard-an-attempt to death metal), but to me the highest point was the last concert.

Rock On !! Sinbad The Sailor ! (Sorry embed option was disabled by the user – U may want to go to the link n see it)

*** Read Ahead Only if u have seen the movie**** SPOILER***
When Adi (Farhaan) finishes the slow number Tum Ho Toh, and out of the blues KD (Purab) just breaks in and goes wild on Drums. At that point you feel what KD is feeling, he just wanna do his thing. Magik is not there to win, they just came to play together and finish what they started. They are just having fun doing what they do best together. The awesome drum solo paves the way for surprise entry for Joe (Arjun), and you along with audience on screen go wild in prelude riff for Sinbad the Sailor song… and the feeling lingers on you even after the song is over. I had goose bumps all thru that song !! I really wanna get back to the guitar !! I am suddenly at this new high and charged up. You just cannot miss this movie !!!
